1996 International Police Vehicle
Design Contest

More than 400 law enforcement agencies throughout the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom participated in the 1996 eighth annual International Best Police Vehicle Design Contest. As has been the case in previous contests, the thought and care that all of the participants put into their entries was apparent and very impressive to the judges.

SECOND PLACE
DeWitt County, IL, Sheriff’s Dept
Since most of the state contract cars purchased for law enforcement agencies are white in color, Sheriff Roger Massey wanted to distinguish the DeWitt County Sheriff's Department vehicles with clear, bright markings. The public was confused in the past about which department was on the scene of emergencies.

To solve these problems, Massey stated “Our plan included using exterior emergency lightbars and coming up with new squad markings with ‘Sheriff’ large enough so that the public could easily identify our squads. We also wanted all of the striping and logos to be reflective to add to the visibility of our officers at emergency scenes.”
