Former DeWitt County Sheriff Myra Westray received a special gift on the eve of her 93rd birthday. Sheriff Jered Shofner and Illinois Sheriff’s Association President Robert Hertz presented Mrs. Westray with a special Illinois Sheriff’s Association flag and certificate in recognition of her service as DeWitt County Sheriff from 1943-1946. She was also presented with a special badge. Mrs. Westray was the first women to serve as Sheriff in Illinois and still lives in Clinton. Sheriff Shofner is proud to count Mrya as a friend and enjoys listening to her experiences; “Myra is one of the real treasures of DeWitt County. Her stories about crime during the 1940’s are fascinating.”
