Roger W. Massey, Sheriff

DeWitt County Illinois Sheriff Roger Massey is a lifelong resident of DeWitt County. He attended Maroa-Forsyth High School and graduated from Danville Area Community College with a degree in Criminal Justice.

Sheriff Massey began his career at the DeWitt County Sheriff's Office working part time as a radio dispatcher in August of 1969. He graduated from one of the first Illinois State Police training courses in Operation of LEADS Data Communications Terminal on August 19, 1969.

Sheriff Massey has worked for every DeWitt County Sheriff since 1969 until being elected Sheriff himself. He has experience in all areas of the Sheriff's Department including Corrections and Telecommunications.

In December of 1978, Sheriff Massey became a sworn Deputy Sheriff. He attended the University of Illinois' Police Training Institute graduating in March of 1978 receiving the Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award.

Sheriff Massey continued his career as a Deputy Sheriff working part-time in patrol and investigations until being elected to Sheriff in December of 1994.

Sheriff Massey has been honored by numerous organizations including an award from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 1998 for his work in traffic safety, the Illinois State Police Departmental Special Award in 2002 for his investigative work in the Heather Tomich Homicide Investigation, and the Illinois State Bar Association's Law Enforcement Award in 2004 in recognition of outstanding public service bringing honor and respect to the criminal justice system.
